It’s a good thing we postponed the Pork Party, it’s been a very warm and sunny weekend here in Shrewsbury. Preparations are underway for next weekend, here’s a shot of Lucas putting together our mini-smoketent:
We got a lot of chores done around the farm including finishing up the goats’ winter fence, washing and putting away all the whey buckets, and making a master shopping list for sausage spices. The next two weeks are prime deer hunting season so the goats won’t be going for any walks in the woods (I saw a deer the other day and thought Minny had gotten out!)… instead they are doing a very nice job stripping the trees within their enclosure:
Lastly, we’ve finally identified our geese as being African Geese. They are supposedly one of the most docile breeds, which makes sense because they haven’t tried to attack us yet. They are amazingly self-sufficient and very, very loud guard-geese: you can’t get ten yards into the orchard without deafening honking. We hope to see everyone next weekend!
